The Cavalier

A shining knight on a white horse.

The Cavalier was one of many new classes proffered in Gary Gygax’s imperfect 1985 Unearthed Arcana. It leaned hard into the Arthurian, knightly-warrior archetype: a skilled rider, a formidable combatant, and a devout adherent of chivalric codes. The “knight in shining armor” trope gets passed over in a lot of fantasy RPGs, likely because it clashes with the murder-hobo vibe of most games, but it’s one I’ve always loved to play.
The QuestRex version imagines the cavalier as a character likely of noble birth, who strives to burnishes their manners and education as much as their martial prowess. Such characters feel destined to become great leaders. It's a great archetype for any "wise warrior king" character.

The classic knightly-warrior archetype: a skilled rider, a formidable combatant, and a devout adherent of chivalric codes. They will tend toward heavy armor and often employ a retinue of servants and henchmen.
